Gold has long been a cornerstone of the global economy, valued for its scarcity, stability, malleability, and aesthetic appeal. It has maintained its status as a reliable store of value for millennia. Today, gold remains prominent in the market, with daily trading volumes averaging US$162.6 billion across various platforms (1). Its high liquidity, comparable to many stock markets and currencies, makes it especially attractive during periods of global volatility. Both institutional and retail investors favor gold as a safe-haven asset during economic uncertainty. Leading asset managers advocate for its inclusion in diversified portfolios, and it is increasingly preferred over traditional fiat currencies in unstable regions.
At XRB DAO, our mission is to tokenize and democratize access to the world's most valuable assets. We have identified gold as our first target. Although gold is highly desirable, it is bulky, expensive to store, and difficult to transport. The estimated above-ground stock of gold is worth around US$12 trillion (2). Our goal is to make this asset more accessible and manageable for everyone.
In this paper, we introduce XRB Gold, the first blockchain-based digital asset offering proof of ownership for physical gold. Unlike other "gold-backed" tokens, XRB Gold provides true ownership of physical gold, secured by triple gold reserves stored in secure vaults under Kingdom of the Netherlands legal oversight, and fully redeemable 1:1 for 0.999 fine Good Delivery Gold. We explain the importance of modernizing gold ownership and how our product works, including our regulated Trust company and the design of our digital token’s smart contract.
XRB Gold offers a simple and cost-effective way for individuals to own, trade, lend, or transfer investment-grade physical gold, eliminating the usual expenses, inconveniences, and security risks. XRB Gold sets a new standard, promoting economic growth and prosperity for its holders worldwide.
